Mubasher Lucman misusing social media

The discovery of the Internet is like the discovery of the proverbial wheel of these modern times. With the development of the Internet came social media, which has taken everyone across the globe by storm. Pakistan has also become addicted to this form of media, as it allows people to not only connect with other people but also brings the world at their feet.

There is no doubt that Social Media is a great tool of communication, never seen before in history. If used properly social media has proved to be a force to be reckoned with and brought revolutions in the countries that haven’t seen change in decades.

Social media opened new windows into the global village allowing people of countries with strict media laws to tell the world of the atrocities in their country and show the real picture, that the main media didn’t or couldn’t report. Now everyone has a chance to tell their story.

Similarly, Pakistani media that has faced a lot of struggle under the dictators found this media emancipating. However, as usually happens in our country, we misused social media in the worst way possible. The main reason for this is that our morals are dying and we don’t value limits and courtesy.

We have become to believe that the vicious and rude one is the better. This bad trait is masked by the label of being ambitious. We think it is our right to lash out at everyone without weighing what is being given out, whether the news or information is authentic.

Ironically some media personnel in Pakistan, who are trained to work within certain boundaries, are the worst abusers of social media. They misuse their “star power” blatantly and spread anything on the social media including vicious gossip and abuse. Unfortunately, Pakistanis are gullible and accept everything without ever confirming whether the facts are correct or not.

Social media is being used as a propagandist’s tool only to defame others without thinking twice. These media personnel should refrain from using the social media in a negative way for their personal vendettas and grievances.

If Lucman was only spouting venom against a private person it was understandable that he had some issues there, but he is always criticizing the courts including the Honourable Supreme Court and its judges.

The Supreme Court should come down heavy on such people and bar them from putting up derogatory data about other without verification. Such people should face penalty.

One such bad fish in the Pakistani media is the loud and highly unreliable so-called journalist Mubasher Lucman, who not only uses the main media but also the social media to keep blowing his own trumpet and voicing his grievances against people who are successful in the field.

He has being airing episodes against a single person and his business ventures without fear of the court. Interestingly, Mubasher Lucman also gets away with abusing the courts and judges, and no action is taken against him. Isn’t it strange that no one takes action against him?

And because of this Lucman has spread his propaganda on to the social media, which reaches a larger audience. The courts must take action this defamation according to law.

It is sad to see an aged person like Mubasher Lucman act like an immature person on social media. He has no limits and thinks since he has a show on TV and is adept to handle social media, he has the right to use it only to spread negativity and say what he likes about anyone. He should grow up and improve his personality and manners and then criticize others.

If Mubasher Lucman sees himself as a media crusader and a Caesar among mortals in the media, then he should also remember that Caesar had many flaws and one of them was pride which was his undoing.

We would sincerely request Mubasher Lucman to take heed and not allow the sycophants around him misguide him. Lucman should remember that the media is a fickle mistress – it pleases you tremendously but it can ruin you in one go.

Today, we agree with what Mubasher Lucman has been saying for so many months that there is a lot of corruption in the media.
In this context, the word corruption is not being used in the way we use it in Pakistan meaning swindling funds and other such crimes. We are using this word as corruption of morals and ethics.
We agree with Mubasher Lucman that vulgar and Indian content – that he openly criticizes and condemns all the time – should be contained. We also agree that everyone has access to this content once it is out there in the media. And we also agree that our children are in danger of being exposed to this vulgar content. We also agree that the propagation of this matter should be controlled and strict action taken against those who propagate this content.
Having agreed with Mubasher Lucman on all these points, we can’t help thinking why he doesn’t practice what he preaches. Why can he post vulgar content and that too Indian, while the rest of the media has to bear his criticism? Why is he allowed to use his show on a TV channel to propagate derogatory content against everyone else? And as if this was not enough, he is now using social media on which everything goes viral to post vulgar content especially since this is easily accessible to people of all ages.
A case in point is the vulgar content that surfaced on Lucman’s own website Baaghi.tv on March 13, 2014. As if this was not enough, he tweeted about this on his twitter account “@MubasherLucman” at 5:51pm so that more people saw it.
The tweet posted on March 13 at 5:51pm on Mubasher Lucman’s twitter timeline along with a link to his website was;
“Mubasher Lucman @MubasherLucman “bad news boys..Riya Sen now kisses girls only
Anyone who wants to verify this can check Mubasher Lucman’s website Baaghi.tv and read the news titled “Riya Sen Lock Lips With a Girl at a Party:” and see the soft porn photograph which suports the title. What was this Pakistan’s self-proclaimed pillar of morals Mubasher Lucman thinking by allowing a lewd story to be posted on his website and that too of Indian origin? He could have been forgiven for this if he hadn’t gone and tweeted about it. By doing this, he has committed a double sin: vulgar content and Indian content and then using the powerful social media to make sure everyone sees it.
We ask Mubasher Lucman: What are you trying to do by posting such news on your website? You would have been forgiven for this oversight of posting or allowing such content to be posted on your website, but when you tweeted about it, you literally put the noose around your neck.
You give long sermons on how others are corrupt and how you are a great redeemer, when all the time you are openly using the social media to spread vulgar content and at the same time making money. Isn’t it you, Lucman who keeps telling us repeatedly on your shows that the media, especially the electronic media, is responsible for showing Indian content? Then how could you allow this news to be posted on your website and then tweet about it?
And by tweeting about it does it mean that you are proud of the content on your website, even if it is vulgar? And that you have no problem in blatantly publicizing it all over social media to ensure that no one misses it? Is getting more hits on your website more important than the moral sensibilities of the masses of this Islamic country?

KharaSach: Custodian of nonsense

After a short trip to the United Kingdom and doing irrelevant shows from there and airing reruns of older episodes, Khara Sach’s delusional anchor returned to the Land of the Pure to do two shows on Thar. But the calm wasn’t to last. No sooner had Mubasher Lucman recovered from jet leg, he was back doing irrelevant shows full of nonsense that only he himself understood.

On March 12 his show was about – only he knows because we couldn’t decipher it. But we will try our best to explain it to you, so here goes.

Of course, his obsession continues with the picture of a rival media tycoon that is pasted to an empty chair on his set, which he talks to through the show. It is amazing how Lucman loves this gentleman because he (Lucman) manages to bring his name up in every other sentence.

One would have thought that after returning from the UK the show would be revamped but that was not going to happen. And the custodian of nonsense came back in full force and began his usual rant over useless topics that no one cares about.

After two shows on the Thar issue, Lucman’s third show was on some scam that he tried his best to link to the Jang Group’s newspapers because they had carried some ads. Unfortunately for him, the guests on the show didn’t blame Jang for the scam. The guests clearly said that they had read the ads in the newspapers but the people they contacted were the ones who fooled them into getting stuck in the scam. They added that they had been foolish to trust these people and give them money.

Failing to ignite propaganda against the Jang Group, Lucman got another nonsensical topic of fake universities in the country – not a new scam – but once again the guests revealed that they were aware of what they were getting into.

When this failed, Lucman suddenly revealed he would “reveal” something “shocking” that would implicate Mir Shakeel. But when he returned he had nothing.

Although he highlighted grave crimes against humanity of forced rapes of Indian Muslim females in UP, India and the brutal killings of the male relatives of the females raped, the logic behind suddenly talking about these wasn’t clear.

Lucman said that the Indian authorities had claimed that these incidents occurred after clashes between Indian Muslim and Hindus citizens. And last we check UP is still a part of India, therefore this is India’s internal matter, even if it is a extremely painful matter that should not go unpunished.

Pakistan can only condemn these incidents and protest but cannot do anything else. It is up to the government of UP and India to tackle this issue and bring the criminals to book.

This has nothing to do with any peace initiative between two countries, in this case Pakistan and India. It is a domestic matter of India – clashes between Indian citizens belonging to two different religions. Nothing to do with Pakistan!

Lucman then highlighted similar atrocities in Kashmir, which are painful and extremely condemnable. And Pakistan has always raised its voice against these crimes against the people of Kashmir. But Pakistan can only condemn and protest these incidents and try to make the international community see what is happening in Kashmir as it has in the past.

The best thing that Mubasher Lucman could do is focus on issues at home; try and improve the content of his own show and stop wasting his channels precious air time and resources on nonsensical topics to be discussed on his show.

Instead of talking about a lot of disconnected issues in a futile attempt to defame the Geo and Jang Group, Lucman would have got more ratings if he had picked a topic more likely to get viewers. He could have for example focussed on Karachi’s gang war problem and the deaths of 14 people who had been killed the same day (March 12) in Lyari.

If he was serious to do a show, he could have pegged the show on the Lyari incident and questioned the authorities on the inability to cleanse Lyari despite the continuous operation in the city for the last seven months.

But then it seems it is asking too much of Lucman to develop a talk show on the real issues – he couldn’t have done it since he lacks the years of experience and thought process that comes when one works as a journalist.

Lucman feels safer highlighting non-issues that make no sense to anyone and thus his show goes (painfully) on and on at the cost of the viewers’ patience and his channel’s money.
